My oldest heart attack patient

Updated: Dec 26, 2021

I recently reviewed a patient of mine who was 99 years old. She presented to me 2 years ago with sudden chest pains due to an acute anteroseptal myocardial infarction. She had emergency coronary angiography which showed a severe 90% narrowing in the LAD artery. The other two arteries (circumflex & RCA) had only mild disease. Immediate stenting to the LAD improved her condition as coronary flow was reestablished. During her review a few days ago, she remained well and was able to continue enjoying an even longer life.

No matter how old you are, if you suspect you may be having a heart attack, please go to the hospital to be assessed as time is very important. The earlier the blocked artery is treated, the better the outcome.
